Mostly hype for HP's "memristor"

The book neglects most of the history of memory resistance effects such as the work on thin film memory resistance based on metal oxides and chalcogenides in the 1960's and the use of memistors by Bernard Widrow in early artificial neural networks (ADALINE, MADALINE) in favor of the hype of Chua's "fourth fundamental circuit element" which is not of much use to realistic neural modeling.
While there are a few interesting sections such as the chapter discussing biologically-inspired electronics by Di Ventra and Pershin this material is basically a rehash of other material published online for free. For example see the review article "Memory effects in complex materials and nanoscale systems" which is available for free on the Cornell arXiv database.
For those interested in neuromorphic modeling I would recommend saving their money and instead buy On Intelligence by Jeff Hawkins which provides a much more compelling model.
