I couldn't put it down.

I'm a reader of the author's webcomic "Not a Villian", and decided I'd check out this book when I saw it mentioned on the site. I couldn't (figuratively, since it's a Kindle version) put it down. The characters are compelling, the world is unique (at least to me), and the plot twists are numerous and entirely unexpected. I loved it.
It's obviously part of a series, or at least will have a sequel, since the end left off with some loose ends untied. I'm looking forward to seeing the next book come out to see how the author handles those!

An extremely engaging read

When I bought this book, I expected to like it. After all, it has a trickster god, magic, and a girl determined to save her family at all costs. What's not to like?
But I did not expect how thoroughly this book sucked me in. I read it over a weekend, unable to put it down for long. The characters are well-developed and complex, the world is fascinating and unique, and the magic system is unlike any I've encountered. The plot is absolutely engaging, and I loved how information about the world and Ki's past were revealed slowly, so that I felt I was still learning things by the end of the novel.
I'm a regular reader of Aneeka's webcomic, and I am very glad to see that her talent as a storyteller shines just as brightly in novel format. I eagerly await the sequel!

Very well written YA from a talented author

I bought this book on a whim. I don't normally read YA, but for some reason the title and then the description intrigued me.
This is a very good book. The only flaws I can see are some copy-editing mistakes and the fact that it's only available via Kindle, so I can't lend it to people to make them read it.
Ki is a very sympathetic, determined girl who made a choice to protect her loved ones, no matter what the gods say. And that choice brought horrible repercussions. But she is happy she made that choice, even though it means that she is miserably unhappy almost all the time.
It's worth the read. I look forward to the sequel.
