I like this book overall because it is generally a good ...

I am a college and seminary professor and have used this book for class. I hardly ever review anything but thought I'd write a review of this book as the other two reviews were just ridiculous. Do you not do any research into a book before you buy it? Look at the table of contents? The publisher? The background of the author? Those who endorse it? The previous reviews are not of the content of the book but merely a reflection of the ignorance of the buyers.

I like this book overall because it is generally a good intro into Christian (!) ethics, biblical ethics, as well as a brief overview of moral theory (which often is lacking in Christian ethics books). It gives a good basic overview of many ethical issues. See the table of contents for more info on what it covers. Overall good book which will give the reader a wide range of ethical and metaethical material.

Christan? Ethics overview

The description of the book indicates it is a general approach to ethics with a Christian view. I got turned off when the reference material were verses from the Bible. I am a Christan and in fact an ordained minister in a Christan Interfaith Church. I was hoping for a general review of ethics with comparison to Christ and his philosophy/teachings. But most of the references are backed up with bible references from the old testament. If the old testament is your idea of Christian philosophy, this book is for you. This book is not what I hoped it would be.

The cover doesn't mention that this book is only for Christians

The cover and name of this book are misleading: it should have been called "Moral Choices: An Introduction to CHRISTIAN Ethics." It might have been nice-- ETHICAL, EVEN-- if the cover SORT OF MENTIONED that the thing is back-to-back Bible quotes and written EXCLUSIVELY for followers ONE PARTICULAR RELIGION. If you're not Christian, here's a book that'd make a pretty decent doorstop.

Elizabeth Peters (writing as Barbara Michaels) was born and brought up in Illinois and earned her Ph.D. in Egyptology from the University of Chicago's famed Oriental Institute. Peters was named Grandmaster at the inaugural Anthony Awards in 1986, Grandmaster by the Mystery Writers of America at the Edgar(R) Awards in 1998, and given The Lifetime Achievement Award at Malice Domestic in 2003. She lives in an historic farmhouse in western Maryland.

A classic gothic

This is one of Michaels's finest, in my opinion, tied with _Black Rainbow_ for my favorite among her gothics. If you prefer her contemporary romantic suspense novels like _The Dancing Floor_, this is probably not for you. If, however, you love _Jane Eyre_ and books in the true gothic tradition--a sympathetic, adventurous heroine; a sinister villain; a bleak nineteenth-century setting; and increasing suspense and danger--this is a must-read. Michaels also offers her trademark enhancements of the formula in the shape of an engaging, humorous, and genuinely likeable hero (no brooding churl!) and welcome touches of humor. I find the heroine especially enjoyable, unlike Michaels's more recent heroines, who are more abrasive, defensive, and unsympathetic. This is perfect rainy-day or winter reading. If you listen, you can hear the howling of the wolves...

Amazing!

I have read this book numerous times, and each time it gets better. I even bought a hardcover copy because my paperback version is dog-eared and bent in several places because of how many times I have read it. The heroine in this book is especially likeable as is the hero. Even the villian is somewhat likeable because of the talent of the author. This book is in my opinion Barbara Michaels finest work and I have read all her books. Other books I would recommend by this author are "Here I Stay" and "Vanish with the Rose". Also by her other pseudonym Elizabeth Peters, I would recommend the Vicky Bliss mysteries.

The wolf within Mrs. Michaels

Sons of the Wolf has to be Barbara Michaels greatest novel yet. This novel is full of myster and drama.
The novel begins with two sisters Harriet and Ada who have just become orphaned by their grandmother, and are forced to live with a distant cousin. In it they discover two bothers who are total oppostes and who have secrets themselves. Yet the main question circulating throughout the novel is, who is the true wolf trying to devour the innocent sheep like sisters. If you love mystery and dramam I highly recommend you read this novel.

About the Author
Born into an artistic family, Miguel Llobet Soles (Barcelona, 1878-1938) moved in the company of such musical artists as Debussy, Ravel, and Fauré, and traveled with Richard Strauss, Granados, and de Falla. Llobet became a student of Francisco Tárrega in 1892. He later attended the Escuela Municipal de Música in Barcelona. His performance career was launched in 1901 in Valencia. Over the next few years he offered many concerts, including a performance for the Royal Family in Madrid. Not only is Llobet known for his artistic interpretations of the standard guitar repertoire, including transcriptions, but he is also known for his original compositions and arrangements for the instrument. He wrote over thirteen original compositions and more than 70 arrangements and transcriptions for guitar solo and some duets. The arrangements of popular Catalonian folk songs are probably his best known works.

Biswajit Banerjee works at Industrial Research Limited in Auckland, New Zealand, where he researches and develops elastic wave control and deformation sensing technologies. He was previously a research professor of mechanical engineering and mathematics at the University of Utah.

Basically just what I was looking for - almost

There's something I don't quite like about this book. The derivations and exposition at the beginning just seem like a tossed together set of lecture notes. There's no depth and there are large jumps in the derivations. It just feels like there's something missing; in abstraction, everything's there, but it reads more like a formula sheet than a text.

However, there's a book of worked out solutions available for free online. At 171 pages, this annex is a book in itself. And it's HERE where you'll find all manner of worked out examples, often several pages for a single problem, of calculations with hardly a detail excluded.

The combination of these two is actually rather excellent. And although it would be nice for the main text to include more in the way of actual pedagogy (mind you, I've only been through the first few chapters), I'm quite satisfied with the combination of the two.

The level of detail in the solution manual is essential for the study of metamaterials. To my mind, the approach to metamaterials is to do somewhat acrobatic manipulations with traditional electrodynamics. It's fundamentally technical in nature - meaning it's full of analytic maneuvers and tons of notation. The electrodynamics framework is simple enough and has already been in place for quite some time. What's new here is a series of somewhat complicated manipulations for forcing a counter-intuitive response out of somewhat ordinary materials. Given that the extension is actually theoretically straightforward (no fundamentally new theory is really involved), the only novelty here is in the nature of the analytic operations (in the electrodynamic context). I reason then that we should receive a healthy dose of these or else of what value would this text be??

Overall, and with the solutions manual, the book covers a satisfying breadth of material and I feel confident that when I'm done I'll be able to model me some invisibility cloaks! Which is the point of all of this, right? In-fricken-visibility cloaks!

Thelema Tarot

I collect tarot decks and looked forward to receiving this deck. The pictures are more generic than I expected, though pretty. I would have given it four stars for that. The main deal breaker is the card stock, shiney and flimsy. The corners are not cut evenly. For a 25 dollar deck? I have watched reviews and no one mentions this. Hope this helps.

Avoid this company.

Recieved this deck and it looks like a three year old cut it with safety scissors. Absolutely terrible. Contacted Lo Scarabeo customer service and they sent me a replacement deck that is just like the first deck. I sent these pictures to them to show what the decks look like and I get back

Echanting without any distractions. It works!

loved the images when I first saw the deck. However, there has been some confusion over the name. Thelema, Greek for “will”, is the name of a religion created by Aleister Crowley (Thoth Tarot). It would be easy to assume then that this deck would be based on the works of Crowley, the Thelemic religion and be Thoth based. You would be wrong. The Thelema Tarot has very little if nothing at all to do with Crowley, deck or religion.

False advisement? Maybe, but then again words can be used as one wishes. A perfect example of this is the Illuminati Tarot, which has nothing to do with the secret society. Instead, the deck works around the theme of illumination, the meaning of the word illuminati. Perhaps the Thelema Tarot is doing something similar, with the word “will”. This is a deck of will, intention and manifestation?

Instead of sitting and arguing over the name, our focus on any deck should really be on the cards themselves.

The deck comes in an upright box with a pull off top lid. It is always a benefit to have a hard box which you can use to store the cards in. Inside you will find the deck wrapped in plastic and a companion book separate, unwrapped. The booklet is written by Jaymi Elford, a familiar name for myself. We were foundation partners at Readers Studio ’15. The deck is a standard size deck, just slightly larger than a Waite-Smith deck. The card stock is glossy and thin. Nothing noteworthy in regards to the card stock. It is a shame as always when a deck as mediocre card stock.

The images are done using the computer. If you are familiar with the Gilded Tarot, Mystic Dreamer, the Thelema Tarot would be its love child. The images are lush with color, ethereal and fantastical. I do see though that the faces lack consistency, some faces look photorealistic while others do not. The deck overall looks well refined except for the Hermit, which looks a little half baked. There is something off about the Hermit himself when compared to other figures. It is hard to pin point what it is.

The coloring is rich with deep blues, bold reds, lush greens. The deck is candy for the eyes without a diabetic coma. There is a whispery , misty sense to the images that adds a layer of magic to it.

The images follow closely to the Wait-Smith tradition but Ranata has taken liberties in many of the representations. The images are recognizable as Waite-Smith influenced but not an exact reproduction. The Thelema Tarot is unique enough where the images are refreshing but still familiar.

The booklet provides a quick reference for the images and a summation of the symbols and meanings. It also includes the “Thelema Spread”. Jaymi did a wonderful job at explaining the cards quickly.

The ultimate test of a deck is its utility. Is this a deck that works? How does the deck work in a reading? While this test is answered differently based on each reader, for me, this deck does and has worked already for me.

With all of this said, what can I say about the Thelema Tarot overall? The Thelema Tarot is a gorgeous deck that is enchanting and has proven to work. I have many pretty decks and most of them just don’t speak to me. The Thelema Tarot has spoken to me and I find this deck very readable. I think it is a fine addition to a reader’s collection and can be a “work horse deck”, a deck you use on a daily basis.

A Classic !!

The book is the most compete NLP book on one single binding. It is very well organized and very structured - definitely the most definitive basic NLP book in the market.

Perhaps that's why this book is one of the recommended introductory text in many NLP Practitioner courses, and it is still in printing after so many years and so many printings.

The NLP ideas presented here starts from the basic and slowly progresses in-depth. It does not have too much NLP jargon, and yet not too simple. (where jargon is used, you can refer to the appendices where each NLP term is explained in clear day-to-day English)

Each chapter is packed with well connected series of NLP concepts and tools, seamlessly connected to the following chapters, and normally ends with some NLP exercises which you can immediately use to change your life.

Unlike other self-help books where the so-called guru pumps you up with their motivational ideas, normally without much substance, the NLP ideas presented here are without all the fluff and "how poor turned heroes" stories. In this book, O'Connor just give you pure power-packed NLP ideas that you can try on yourself and others for immediate results.

This is definitely the NLP book. If you're looking for only one good basic NLP book to change your life, look no further.

Good introduction

This book was my first introduction to NLP. It was insightful, but very dry. I could only stomach 4-6 pages at a time, but the information was good enough to get me through the book. It is an introduction, as the title says, so it gave me an idea of what NLP is and direction for further study, but not a lot of practical takes-aways.
